Gold was priced at $5,184.01 per ounce, down 0.02%, while gold futures on the COMEX in New York rose 0.18% to $5,203.70.<\/p>\n

The metal is on track for its seventh consecutive monthly gain. In February, gold prices increased by more than 6%, driven by U.S. tariff uncertainties, heightened political tensions between Washington and Tehran, and growing demand for gold as a safe-haven asset.<\/p>\n

Kelvin Wong, senior market analyst at OANDA, stated that the drop in 10-year U.S. Treasury yields (after adjusting for inflation) is one of the main factors currently supporting gold prices.<\/p>\n

Yields on the 10-year Treasury are near a three-month low, while the dollar has gained 0.6% for the month. This makes gold more expensive for holders of other currencies, partially moderating upward price pressure.<\/p>\n

On the political front, Oman announced that the U.S. and Iran achieved some progress in Thursday\u2019s talks in Geneva on Tehran\u2019s nuclear program, although the negotiations concluded without a final agreement.<\/p>\n

In monetary policy, Kevin Warsh\u2019s path as a potential Federal Reserve chair for faster rate cuts may face limits given signs of U.S. economic strengthening.<\/p>\n

Recent economic data show a slight increase in first-time U.S. unemployment claims last week, while the unemployment rate in February remained nearly unchanged. Financial markets continue to expect the Federal Reserve to implement three 25-basis-point rate cuts this year.<\/p>\n
